In search of photographic evidence
I have never been very good at documenting important moments in my life with photographs. My eldest son’s first birthday pictures were courtesy of a party guest. My second son’s first birthday? Yup, you guessed it, another party attendee. Now my littlest one? Thank goodness my brother-in-law brought his camera and snapped away. If it weren’t for all the people in my life, there would be very little photographic evidence of actual events. Paper, drawings, cards, letters, and invitations, on the other hand, get stored away in boxes meant for pictures, of course.
But recently, I’ve been seeing my world a little differently, snapshot style. Whether it’s a look from one of the kids, flowers from my hubby, or theĀ disaster after a playdate, I wish I had a picture of the moment, if only to jog my memory and the story that goes with that particular moment.
So now I have photo envy.
A friend and fellow paper lover, Lisa at lotusandnovember, set up her blog to not only share her design work but also to record the memories that speak to her heart. What I love most is that her boys will not only have a picture, but they will have their mom’s perspective in that moment. It’s easy to dismiss any ole picture, but it’s a gift to see it through someone’s eyes.
And then there are pictures that speak for themselves or beg for a story to be told. Such are those of fellow stationer, Lori, and her blog Paisley Wallpaper. I am constantly amazed at the quality of her work and the composition and color of her photographs. They’re very rich and always seem to whisk me away to some faraway place.
So I decided that I have to start somewhere and bought myself a camera. A little point and shoot, small enough to fit in my pocket and easy enough to whip out at a moment’s notice. I’m ready to capture those precious moments, evidence, of a life lived.
Well, at least that’s the plan.
